In his spare time Daniel plays badminton and football and also enjoys snowboarding and mountain biking. Like most of the team here at Cloudland, Daniel also Enjoys playing video games with friends online.

Josh Davies
Managing Director

Josh is the founder, Managing Director, and platform architect of Cloudland. He not only provides exceptional leadership of the company and to the team, but also focuses his efforts on strategy, sales, and research and development – all with a complete focus on delivering the best services and value to our customers. 

Josh started his journey in cloud-based computing at just 16 when he started hosting websites from his parent’s lounge. Josh’s parents not only lost their lounge, they were kept awake by the continuous droning sound the servers made.

Fast forward 20+ years and Cloudland is a leading business in the Australasian cloud services market providing a very large client base with innovative solutions and the best support in the business. And yes, we have our own premises!

On the weekends Josh loves nothing more than hanging out with his wife and two sons at the beach, enjoying fishing, walking and some R&R.

Richie Jenkins
Director – Sales and Marketing

Richie joined Cloudland as a Director in January 2021, coming from a national cloud services provider. Richie’s motivation at Cloudland is to make a truly positive impact in our clients businesses.

Whether it’s simplifying a process or, guiding them through a digital transformation.

He began his career in the technology sector at the ripe old age of 18, and since then has held various leadership roles with a core focus on sustainable business growth.

Richie also serves on the board of the FAST trust who support families with autism and behavioural needs in schools around the Waikato.

A family man with 3 young children, he enjoys LEGO with the kids, golf and spending time at the beach.

Richie believes in the simple philosophy of “be good, do good”, which means helping others and supporting your teammates, whether it’s on the field or in the office.

John Calland
Chief Operating Officer

John oversees the day-to-day operations of Cloudland, and brings widespread experience in managing rapidly growing companies, ensuring exceptional service delivery, and financial management.

John works closely with Josh and the team on strategy execution and is a board member, while maintaining close contact with customers and partners.

John holds a Bachelor of Management Systems majoring in Computer Science and Information Systems.

John has a broad expertise in the field of Information Technology and business. He started as part of Vodafone’s graduate program, worked for HP in various technical roles, before taking on the IT Management position at London’s National History Museum.

John has been an integral member of Cloudland team since its inception and enjoys mentoring his team – seeing them grow professionally and personally.

In his spare time he loves to get on his bike – racing both on the road and mountain biking, while spending time with family and kids on the water and playing sports.

Marty Thompson
Head of Platform

Marty is the platform lead for Cloudland, and plays the principal role in managing our ever growing platform, assisting our more complex customers, and working closely with the support team on issues.

Marty has an extremely broad skillset, brings over 20 years’ experience managing mission critical environments, and has a complete focus on ensuring customers get the best outcome from the Cloudland platform.

Fulton Penny
Support Team Leader in Service – Hamilton

Fulton has been a Support Engineer at Cloudland for just over 2 years and he loves it! He’s currently taking on the role of assisting and leading our Support Team as well as providing customer care.

Previously, Fulton worked with another major IT service provider and has International experience living abroad in Beijing China. 

On his weekends Fulton loves watching movies with his wife, taking the dog for walks and learning new skills which he can use to renovate his house.

Recently he started playing golf with a couple of his colleagues in the office.

Chris Gourlay
Senior Cloud Support Engineer

Chris Gourlay is a Senior Cloud Support Engineer with a special focus on our South Island customers. He also has a service delivery role, making sure we are doing our very best for our customers.

Chris has worked for Cloudland since late 2019. Prior to that, he was a customer of Cloudland, having worked for 5 years as the IT Co-ordinator for a private medical clinic.

In his spare time he plays in a brass band, is learning woodwork and sewing skills and enjoys playing board games with friends.

“I believe technology is an enabler of success, and a tool for expanding what our customers do. IT should never be an impediment that gets in the way.

I enjoy helping people unlock the potential of their business through cutting-edge IT solutions. I help them to understand how our solutions can enable them to experience a more productive, efficient and successful work environment. Then I make it happen!”

Joel Bullot
Cloud Support Engineer in Service

Joel Bullot is a Cloud Support Engineer, and one of the friendly voices you will hear on the phone within the Support Team! 

Joel’s IT background is in education, providing IT Services and support to schools. Joel holds a Bachelor of Information Technology.

What motivates Joel? Helping people resolve problems they experience on a day-to-day basis, so working is easier and more enjoyable!

In his spare time he enjoys gaming, 3d printing, and taking his drone out mining the bitcoins, as well as looking after his new cat!

Ben Curgenven
Cloud Support Engineer in Service –
Christchurch

Ben Curgenven is one of the friendly faces you will see around Christchurch, with a voice as cheerful and welcoming as his face!

Ben has recently joined Cloudlands, prior to that he worked in IT for a large healthcare provider, as well as Vodafone.

In his spare time he enjoys racing quadcopters, traveling, 3D designing in Unity and Blender, riding his motorbike, and playing PC games – a rather varied set of interests!

Resolving issues and providing good outcomes for our clients is what Ben loves most about his job.

Rory Julian
Senior Cloud Support Engineer

Rory Julian is a Senior Cloud Support Engineer, who provides specialist support services to customers, our project and service team.

Rory has been an integral member of Cloudland for 4 years, having previously worked in local government IT.

IT is more than a profession for Rory, it’s a passion as he has an interest in all things technology.

He enhances our clients IT experience by understanding their environment, workflows and solving problems while providing prompt, efficient internal and external support. 

Matt Freebairn
Cloud Support Engineer in Service – Hamilton

Matt is a new addition to the support team. He held an IT support role for three years, and joined our team after Graduating from Waikato University with a B.D (Bachelor of Design) in Interface Design and Computer Science.

In his spare time he enjoys spending time with family and friends (and taking any opportunity to work on his project car).

But when it comes down to it Matt lives for a challenge – he believes that the only way to learn is by doing, and will take any opportunity to learn new skills while helping upskill others.

Matt has a passion for all things technology and enjoys sharing his knowledge around this topic.

Shane Wilkinson
Cloud Support Engineer, Service Desk

Shane’s roles at Cloudland include Cloud Support Engineer alongside working on the Service Desk.

Shane has worked for Cloudland for almost 9 years. Prior to joining the team, he worked a range of jobs in various industries. Starting out as a Physics and Science Teacher at Hillcrest High School, he then progressed through various tech-related jobs for companies such as QED Software, Air New Zealand and Staples Rodway Waikato. Alongside providing IT Support for some Auckland Schools. He even had his own ICT Support business in the Far North.

In his spare time, Shane enjoys spending time with his boys, who are 11 & 12 (although he often needs to detach them from their computers first). He also takes part in physical activities such as walking & cycling to and from work and swimming. He also enjoys regular Karaoke sessions and reading (in an attempt to cut back on the Netflix binges).

Shane has received a Bachelor of Science (Computer Science & Electronics) and has a Diploma in Secondary Teaching.

Paul Wilson
Cloud Support Engineer in Service – Hamilton

Paul is part of the Support Team dealing with day to day issues and queries, helping out wherever he can.

Paul joined Cloudland in mid 2020, having previously worked for two large tertiary education providers.

He worked his way up from learning the basics of enterprise IT support and customer service, to purchasing hardware, software deployments and brokering ICT solutions for business needs.

Then he transitioned into the private sector learning about server maintenance, backup, 365, virtualisation and other industry standards.

Paul holds a Bachelor of Information Technology, ITIL Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management and AGILE Essentials Certificate.

Paul is a huge cricket fan! Saturdays in summer are spent playing for his local club – he got to see NZ in the World Cup Final at the MCG in 2015. Most weekends are spent exploring the beach or a bush walk or at home smoking meat Low N’ Slow American style BBQ – think brisket, ribs etc.

Paul enjoys constantly learning new ways technology can make living and working simpler, faster and better.

Aaron Robinson
Cloud Support Engineer

Aaron has a background in the Education Department back in Australia, spending the first 4 years of his Career there.
He recently made a sea change to New Zealand and has stepped into the world of Cloud computing to further his skills and knowledge.

Aaron Studied at the Gordon Tafe in Australia, obtaining many high distinctions over the course of his studies of Systems Engineering.

In his spare time Aaron can be often found Tinkering with cars or playing video games on his computer.

Aaron believes in working for his weekend, working hard so he can enjoy spending his free time pursuing hobbies and interests to fulfil his life.

Aaron wants nothing more than to make sure he can improve someone’s day by helping them with a problem that is troubling them.

Clayton Pulman
Professional Services Team Leader in Service – Hamilton

Clayton leads the professional services and projects teams that onboard new customers, while also managing complex customer projects.

Clayton has been with Cloudland for 2 years. Prior to that he worked within the construction industry delivering financial and IT services.

He is a highly skilled software developer, and has led the rollout of large-scale software projects.

In his spare time, Clayton enjoys writing and developing software.

His more notable development is a super-fast online file sharing service that currently has 20,000 monthly users!

He loves to keep busy and is always creating; in addition to that project, he launched a small pet sticker business as well as his own beauty brand!

Clayton enjoys guiding our customers through the complexities of IT and Cloud technologies, and is passionate about automation technology to enable businesses to work more efficiently.

Geoff Gudsell
Senior Cloud Support Engineer in Service – Hamilton

Geoff’s role as a Senior Cloud Engineer involves working on projects and on-boarding new customers, while assisting the Support Team.

Geoff has worked for Cloudland for three years, and prior to that he worked in the Education and Government sectors in IT.

A big rugby league and cricket supporter, he likes to get out to games during the season whenever he can. He enjoys all kinds of music and takes any opportunity to go to concerts.

What inspires Geoff? Overcoming challenges and providing innovative solutions, which makes him a perfect fit for our team!

"Infusing value into our Customers by creating solutions to make their day-to-day lives easier is what inspires me. It can be a bit of trial and error, but it's so satisfying when you finally hit on the right solution! Edison was quoted saying "Never get discouraged if you fail. Learn from it. Keep trying."

Marcus Ibanez
Senior Cloud Support Engineer in Service – Hamilton

Marcus is a member of the professional services team, primarily focused on projects while also assisting the support team.

Marcus uses his expertise to assist and lead projects, and enjoys building strong relationships within the team and with clients.

Prior to joining Cloudland he worked for other Managed Service Providers.

He has also worked in London, Sydney and Melbourne for professional consultancy services in the fields of Gas, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering and Surveying.

He holds a Bachelor of Technology and Network Engineering Diploma.

“I love travelling and being outdoors. I met my beautiful wife in Africa and have two amazing active kids that keep me occupied. One day we’ll be able to travel again and pick up my pro photo gear”.
